This film recalls the gold era of Czech comedy with its exploration of the complicated lives of two families. The stories of two children, one lost, one long absent, lead to a humorous assessment of life in Europe. A group of bumbling smugglers end up with a baby that they sell to a childless couple. At the same time another son returns to visit his divorced parents. The connections between these two stories foreground the complex social structures that exist in modern Czechoslovakia which faces is own problems with illegal immigration.
